Course Structure Overview

It has been shown that different people has different degrees of attention span, with age being the most obvious marker. Therefore, instructors should take this into consideration when planning and formulating your courses. 

We suggest that a lesson should be between 20 and 30 minutes long followed by some activity like tests, quizzes or assignments.

Open Cert platform course format is arranged by sections comprising of lessons. A group of lessons are compiled under one section and a course can have as many sections as required to achieve its objectives and to give your students the value they look to gain from your course. Delivering on your promise to your students will make sure they are happy and satisfied with your course. It is of utmost importance that students feel that they get value for money in registering for your course and that is the best way to ensure that you get organic growth in your student numbers. The word of mouth recommendation is the best form of advertising any product can have.

The above is how a typical course looks like. As you can see, lessons are what contain the subject matter that you want to teach. Your videos are in these lessons and the number of lessons depends on how many sub-topics you want to cover in each section.

Sections are groups of lessons. Typically, each section should cover a different subject matter that you want to teach.  You have the option to put tests or quizzes at the end of each section.

Your Landing Page

For your course landing page, we will need a few lines of information as well. This information will be displayed to visitors when they view your course.

The importance of this page cannot be stressed enough. So, the information has to be accurate and appealing to attract potential students to enroll in your course. This is your elevator pitch.

The following information is required for your landing page;

  • A short list of about 5 benefits of your course
  • A short description of the course
  • A short introduction of yourself as the instructor
  • A list of about 5 items for each of
    • what’s included with your course
    • what students expect to learn from your course
    • what skills can they learn from it.
  • A picture of yourself if you want to
